Frisbee

Quando anunciaram que jogariam frisbee, minha memória evocou imagens de praia, um casal e um objeto de plástico em cores neon, redondo e chato indo e voltando entre o casal. Eu não imaginava que fosse possível jogar frisbee em grupo. Em dois times, na verdade. É necessário que haja o mesmo número de jogadores de cada lado. Também é necessário que dois jogadores tirem os sapatos e os coloquem num lugar combinado e acordado por todos, delimitando o gol. O fato de haver um gol não implica que haja um goleiro. Não. Basta que o frisbee passe por entre os sapatos. Se tiver alguém do outro lado do gol, pra pegar o objeto voador, melhor.

When they announced they would play frisbee, my memory pulled pictures of a beach, a couple and a plastic object in neon colors, round and flat, flying back and forth between the couple. I didn´t figure it is possible to play frisbee in a group. In two teams, in fact. There has to be the same number of players on each side. It is also necessary that two players take off their shoes and put them on an agreed place, in order to delimit the goal. The fact that there is a goal does not imply that there has to be a goalkeeper. No. The frisbee just has to pass between the shoes, that´s enough. If there is someone standing behind the goal, to catch the flying object, the better.

Quem pega o frisbee não pode andar mais, precisa passar "a peteca", como no vôlei. Sempre haverá alguém marcando a pessoa que está parada, com o frisbee na mão, gesticulando energicamente com os braços, como no basquete. Sempre haverá meia dúzia de jogadores gritando o nome da pessoa que segura o frisbee na mão, como no futebol. Por fim, como na pelada de várzea, não há juíz - nem falta.

Whoever catches the frisbee cannot walk anymore, and has to pass it on, like in a volleyball game. There will always be someone "marking" the person that is standing with the frisbee in her/ his hand, waving energetically with the arms, like in basketball. There will always be a dozen players shouting the name of the one holding the frisbee, like in soccer. And last, like in street games, there is no referee - or foul.
No meio do jogo toca o telefone de Kaleem. O amigo no telefone veio pra jogar frisbee, claro. Essa foi uma rara oportunidade em que todos (menos Ruben, que tá em casa, em Barcelona) da casa se juntaram fora de casa. Se juntaram com vários franceses pra curtir um feriadão relax.

In the middle of the game, Kaleems phone rings. The friend on the phone came to play, of course. This was a rare occasion in which everyone at home (except for Ruben, who is at home, in Barcelona) met outside the house. We gathererd with some french people to enjoy the extended and relaxed weekend.
